there's no place like home...in indana and south carolina...for making memories

I have been browsing blogs for a while now and wanted to create this blog to take the place of a scrapbook, a scrapbook that only exists in my mind! I am hoping that I can keep it up to date with stories and pictures that my family and I will always have on hand to look at. I am going to start out with our family's favorite place on earth and where the best memories are made...FRIPP ISLAND!

In the Spring Todd and I purchased a home in Fripp Island, SC mainly because his brother and family live there and we visit at least 3 times a year and we were tired of trying to find a place to stay each time. So, with houses be so low (and God knowing how much we wanted this) He blessed us with a beautiful new vacation home. Troy, Todd's brother, is the director of tennis on the island and my sister-in-law Theresa is the mother of two of the smartest and cutest girls...Sarah and Sophie! Our hope is that our parents will use the house anytime they wish (you don't have to tell my mom twice:) and that we can meet with family and take friends there to make long lasting memories.

I have already had my best friends from "Pendletucky" down and it was THE best time...SERIOUSLY! In June/July we met my nephew Chad (who is in the US Air Force) and his "cutie pe-tutie" wife Becky, my beautiful niece Kiely and my mom and dad. The fireworks were right in our backyard! I sat on our screened-in porch and watched this amazing sight with my family and felt sooooo blessed!

Recently, my boys took their friends Brett and Rishi, mainly to play on the clay courts, but somehow I think that the late night golf cart rides looking for girls trumped that! I took my mom and we have never laughed so hard at these crazy teenage boys! I am thankful that my husband works hard so that we are able to have this home and make such great memories...even though he doesn't get to go all the time:( And I am really thankful for my mother and father-in-law for watching Angel, my pricious but seizure pron teacup poodle, so that she wouldn't have her much needed routine messed up. Once again proving there's no place like home.

Here are some pictures of the last time at Fripp. I will start first at Hunting Island which is the island right before Fripp.

This picture was taken at Hunting Island. Evan, Brett, Rishi, and Graham are sitting on an uprooted tree due to severe beach erosion.

This is another uprooted tree and is part of what I call the "haunted forest". Trees are down everywhere (about 20feet worth from shore to land) due to sea erosion. Look at the root system on this tree!

This is the beautiful Hunting Island lighthouse. It will have to be moved (again) in the next 10 yrs. or it will be washed out to sea. The cottage that we used to cut through the yard to get to the beach cannot be reached now due to the sea covering the road. There are only a handful of cottages that have not been washed away.

Group shot on the ground in front of the lighthouse. I do believe that these boys could be the next modles for Abercrombie, Aeropostle or Hollister! Ha!

The boys of summer made it to the top! If you look to your left you will see Graham hanging on for dear life...can you tell he is a little scared of heights?

Here they are before they climbed over 159 steps! They did it in record time and weren't even out of breath when they were finished. Ahh...youth!

Back on Fripp. The boys spent a lot of time in this "freedom vehicle". They are washing it in the picture down below.

Graham has joked all summer that my mom (Grandma Kay) is so old that she has to sign in and out each time she leaves the house, like they have to do in assisted living homes. So my mom actually did sign in and out each time this last trip and presented her sign out sheet to him on the last night. Graham thought that this was the best! He kept saying, "Grandma Kay, I'm so proud of you!" Grandma Kay is such a good sport!

Thanks mom for letting us use your car, all of the nights out on the porch and all of the laughs we had with the boys. Until next time:)

In the background of this picture you can see a bench. This bench has been placed on the site where Forrest carried Lt. Dan to safety in the movie Forrest Gump. This is on the 5th green on Ocean Creek Golf Course and in our backyard! When we first started to visit the island the trees were still burnt from the Vietnam scene.

Here is Evan carrying "Lt. Dan" Rishi and below they are posing on the infamous bench.

Until next time!
