My mom and I were on the road again last weekend.
We headed down south to Charleston, SC to see Evan get an award.
Evan (left) and his friend Ray received gold stars at last Friday's parade.
Evan had a 4.0 last semester and not only received honor roll but gold stars too...3.7 or higher gpa.
This was his second time to get them!
Not too bad for his knob year...keep it up E!!
We got there on Thursday night and didn't get to see Evan until 1:30 the next day.
We were early as the parade does not start until 3:45,
but it was interesting to watch the set up of the cannons.
These are knobs from Palmetto Battery.
They are in charge of the firing of the cannons during the parade.
It was a beautiful day!!
Evan walking out to the field to join the "detached group".
He and the others receiving awards did not have to march in the parade because they were the one's that were being honored.
Lots of standing around and waiting in the HOT sun!!
This is the beautiful chapel that sits across from the parade field.
When the bells go off you know that it is time for the parade to start!
First out onto the field is the band and pipers!
The Citadel Battle Flag!!
Evan was really wanting a battle flag sooo...
When he got to Fripp late on Saturday I had this draped over his bed!
We just have to get a flag pole up to fly all of our Citadel flags!!
And then cadets start filing in from all over campus...it always gives me chills!!

This is the detached group that Evan was in.
After the firing of the cannons...
The detached group takes their position on the field to receive their awards.
Evan is to the far left second one back.
Evan's group receive their stars.
Eyes in front McMullen!
General Rosa with the group.
The detached group after the gold star and president's award.
They go back to their original spot on the field and await the bagpipers and band that
lead the pass and review of the detached group.
Leading the cadet's company's past the detached group while all the way playing my old
High School (Highland High School) fight song!!
The link below is this years short video of the gold stars parade that
The Citadel External Affairs page put on their fb wall.
You can hear and see all of the sights and sounds of the day!!
Ray and Evan
Ray has a Marine Contract...small but mighty!!
One of Evan's roommate's from last year, Ray and Evan.
We are walking to President Rosa's house for a reception.
Evan and Gma Kay!!
Me, Evan and GENERAL ROSA!
Yep, I made my son approach him and get a picture.
After all, it was my 25 wedding anniv. ;)
Thank you, E!
Ben (Bravo Company Commander), Evan and Ray.
We went to where Evan parks so that he could drive separately to the restaurant.
He is with Sam, his roommate.
Sam has a Navy contract and is studying Civil Engineering.
He wants to live and work on submarines in the Navy!
We had a great dinner but they had to get back to the barracks because
they had to make sure everything and everyone was ready for
Saturday Morning Inspection (SMI).
Evan had SMI in the morning and a 6:00 football game he had to take the knobs to since he is cadre, so we didn't see him until Sunday.
SOOOOO...
Mom and I headed to Fripp!!
I had to do a lot of this but I also got to enjoy some time with the best surprise ever...
...Chad and Becky!!
They were in Jacksonville, FL looking for a place to rent since Chad will
be stationed there for a few years.
Since it was a long holiday weekend the realtor's were off so...so were they!
It's only three hours away from Fripp (YAY!) so they hung out with us
and left Tuesday to go back and hopefully find a place.
One bad thing though, Chad got really sick :(
It progressivly got worse until Monday night he started to run fever and feel really bad.
I felt really bad too because he worked his heart out mowing, and trimming and taking care of everything.
The island Marina looked so pretty and was really busy with Labor Day activities.
Evan brought a friend home, Matt, and after lots of sleep and good eatin' they had to
go back to The Citadel because they didn't get Labor Day off :(
Evan and Matt cheesein' it.
group pictures!
hugs and more hugs!
Goodbye E!
Kinda miss the ride and conversation to and from Charleston with him :(
But it was nice to have Chad and Becky there to visit with and go to the beach with!
We spent Labor Day on the beach laying mostly because we were all exhausted and
Chad wasn't feeling well...but, he did feel good enough to make this flag out of thatch stick and a skull and bones flag left on the beach by some other boy no doubt. :)
He put it next to a hole that a crab had dug and crawled into for the day!
I also got to see these girls!!
I haven't seen them since Evan matriculated into The Citadel last year!!!!!
Sarah, me and Sophie
Sarah was off to a study group in town but Sophie went with me
to catch butterflies.
We went behind our house on the golf course to try to find some...
...and we did
but it was too fast and got away.
So we met up with Theresa at the beach club and Sophie caught two big one's and two small one's.
Great job, Sophie Kay :)
Silly girl!
Theresa said this should be Sophie's Halloween costume this year.
Just add some wings and instantly she is a butterfly that got caught! Easy Peasy!
It was so good spending a little time with you!
Enjoy third grade this year :)
(shrimp boat)
One last golf cart ride around the island and to get sunset pictures at the peir.
I am so glad that you joined us Chad and Becky!!
Jacksonville was a very WISE choice :)
Thanks Todd for taking care of everything while I was gone two weekends in a row!
It was a busy August from beginning to end.
Now,
it's time to finish up the remodel in the basement as the holiday's are quickly approaching!

That is great that Chad and Becky came over and it is great that they will only be 3 hours away. Can't believe how great that boy Evan turned out to be. So very proud of all of our nieces and nephews. Love Ellen
