Last week we had our last home match which meant senior night! Evan and Caleb were recognized with a framed poster that Todd made for them. The poster had pictures of Evan throughout his four years playing for PHHS and Caleb's just had pictures from this year as he is new to the team. He came from Highland since it closed last year. I am so glad that he chose to come to Pendleton! What a nice young man!
After the match was over we celebrated with pizza and cake...YUM! I am working on painting a sidewalk leading into the courts with their names and accomplishments on it. The football team and cheerleaders do this every year for their seniors so I thought that I would start the tradition this year for the boys tennis team.
Here is my senior stepping in to the future! We worked on college applications last weekend. This picture was taken this summer when we went to visit the University of Virginia.
The University was founded by Thomas Jefferson. It was the first University in its time that was not associated with or stem from a church. Mr. Jefferson even took stakes and string and planned the quad area with his own hands. This is a picture of the rotunda which is at the end of the quad area. It looks like a replica of Monticello (Jefferson's home). Men were painting the columns so that is why you see the black cloths around the capitals (top part of the column).
The crepe myrtle trees on this campus are beautiful! I love these trees in bloom and also the smooth reddish tones in the bark when exposed after the leaves fall.
This little guy was perched underneath the crepe myrtles enjoying a piece of bread.
This is the outdoor amphitheater.
You can vaguely see Evan in the distance checking out the new History building. This is where he would spend most of his time if he went here. He thinks that he wants to double major in History and Business and then either go on to Law School or get his MBA.
We also visited The Citadel in Charleston, SC. You can see Evan over in the bottom left hand corner. This picture was taken on the parade grounds. The Citadel is a state funded military school. The cadets wear uniforms to class and their hair is cut very, very short.
What another beautiful campus AND it is only an hour and a half from Fripp! Evan has already applied and has been accepted here! He is taking advantage of "pre-knob" night during fall break. He will sleep over in the barracks, attend a class, and meet with an ROTC (which is PE there) instructor.
The application we worked on last weekend was Northwestern University.
I just noticed that the castle look seems to really appeal to Evan:)
Evan was able to have a senior take him around last spring and he loved it. It was nice because the young man is on the same career path that Evan wants to be on so his advice was most valuable.
I didn't get to go with Todd and Evan so I had to copy and paste some pictures from the internet. Evan said he liked this campus the best and he really likes how close it is to Chicago. I just think about the c-o-l-d winters and breezes coming off of Lake Michigan! Beautiful, but B-R-R-R-R-R-R! Though, I have to say, it would be nice to have him close to home:)
I will keep you posted!

Decisions, decisions! I know he'll be happy with which ever university he chooses. He has such a bright future ahead of him!
